Frequently asked questions

What is counselling?

Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore in a safe environment and difficulties or problems you are experiencing. A counsellor does not judge you or give you advice but will help you explore your feelings and thoughts.

Who is counselling for?

People access counselling for all sorts of different reasons, with the aim of a better understanding of themselves and their world. People experiencing feelings of worry and fear, distress and sadness can use counselling to explore and change the impact on their lives. Others want a space to think about their options, look at possibilities and explore alternative coping mechanisms.

How can I access counselling?

Counselling or Talking Therapy can be prescribed by your GP, and provided by the NHS. Counselling can also be accessed through agencies who manage peoples’ metal health issues, and provide counselling through their funding.

As a Counsellor in private practice I offer immediate access to counselling. I am a BACP registered, independent practitioner in counselling and psychotherapy. Sessions are usually up to 50 minutes and cost £40.

Sessions can be booked on a week by week basis. The frequency of sessions will depend upon your need and requirements and can be booked during session or via text, email or phone call with myself.

What to expect.

In the first session we will be talking through the personal contact form, confidentiality policy and your own assessment and goals and hopes for therapy. We will make a contract or working agreement for meeting times and expectations. There will be time to ask questions to ensure you fully understand what counselling offers.

What is expected of you?

Counselling can be a difficult process and may be upsetting at times. It is important that you understand this and are committed to work towards your goals. You will be supported through this process and hopefully you will feel the change in your experience of life.

Should you become unable to make an agreed session I would appreciate as much notice as possible. It is important in terms of consistency in the work we do together to keep to sessional times.

What if our relationship is not working?

If you find that therapy isn’t what you expected I invite you to bring this to session so that we can work it through together.

What will happen in our counselling sessions?

In counselling session we will be working together towards your goals and hopes for therapy using the HE approach.  You may be offered worksheets to complete outside of session to further your understanding, these are at your discretion, feel no pressure from me. You may be offered signposts to websites and TED talks, again feel no pressure these are only to give you a broader perspective.
